Dear WBAI Supporter --
What do the newly elected members of WBAI's governing board (aka Local
Station Board or LSB) look like? I have attached photos of each one,
so you can easily recognize them on the street -- in case you want to
toss a bouquet (or hurl a rotten rotten tomato, as the case may be).
The first meeting of this board took place on Wednesday, April 23. As
I said in my last report, the political faction known as Justice &
Unity (JUC), which formerly held a majority on the station board, was
repudiated and soundly defeated by the Independent (INDY) candidates
in the recent station election.
LSB show today, beginning at 1pm. Andrea Turner, host and Brian Edwards Tiekert, producer. I do not know the content that is planned for the show.

LSB ELECTIONS
In case you haven't heard the good news, "our" side -- the Independents -- won the recent WBAI governing board elections by a gratifying majority (although part of the case is still in court). I will send out more information soon. But right now, I want to let you know that the first meeting of the new board -- a public meeting -- will take place tonight. Official notices about the meeting were sent out some time ago -- this is just my last-minute addition.

*Re: Proposed Bylaws Amendment reducing the # of in-person PNB Mtgs*
*======================================================================*
*What price governance?*
I am not in support of reducing the number of in-person PNB mtgs. I know many people feel these contribute to the deficit within Pacifica but the meetings do not have to be so costly. There are many ways to save on meeting costs and there are also many ways to save on other expenses that have nothing to do with the governance structure. I think this is a ploy aimed at reducing democratic participation in the Pacifica governance process. The less in person meetings that occur the less chance there is for the public to see and interface with the PNB and the less chance the PNB itself has to interface with each other
FCC Hearing on Net Neutrality is Thursday at Stanford University
Everyone who uses the web to get accurate information, connect with like-minded people, or get the word out about a cultural event, action or campaign has a huge stake in a neutral Internet. This hearing is the result of documented tampering ( http://www.media-alliance.org/article.php?story=20071022182746485 )with web and wireless traffic by the big telecoms. And there is another big threat on the horizon. The future of the last democratic communications outlet in the United States cannot be pay-to-play. So folks, Thursday is a good time to re-arrange your schedules if you can, and get yourselves down to Dinkenspiel Auditorium at Stanford.
Here's the ED report recorded off the kpftx stream:
